Barak

Pronunciation:  BAYR-uk

Occurrences:  2

Reference:  Yeshua 11:42

...Consider again this other also, for there judged in Israel Deborah the wife of Lapidoth; and she called unto Barak that he might save Israel from the hand of Sisera.

See:  Deborah (mirrored page)

Summary:  According to the book of Judges in the Hebrew Bible, Barak and Deborah are credited with defeating the Canaanite armies led by the military commander Sisera. Deborah was a judge and prophetess of Israel who ordered Barak to lead a counterattack against the oppressive armies of Canaan. Barak agreed, but only on the condition that Deborah accompany him to battle.

Yeshua was a radical proponent for women’s rights. In a sermon given in Bethsaida about a year after his baptism, Yeshua defended the rights of women and chastised traditional views held by many of his disciples (Y:11:1-57). Yeshua included Deborah as an example of historical women who were near to God and had helped to liberate Israel.

Notes/References:

....Consider again this other also, for there judged in Israel Deborah the wife of Lapidoth; and she called unto Barak that he might save Israel from the hand of Sisera.

Yet would Barak not go forth except that Deborah should stand beside him in the day of battle.

And Deborah, by her faithfulness unto God and Israel, delivered the nation from evil.

Which of you, therefore, being men, have done like unto these women; who, being elected of God, delivered unto all Israel the word of the Lord?

Yeshua 11:42-45
