Now there came from distant lands, Jews from Tyre and Sidon, from Damascus and Edessa, and from Alexandria and Pelusium seeking to hear for themselves the words of the Essene.

Summary:  In the days of Yeshua, Edessa was the name of a town located in modern-day Turkey. The king of Edessa, Abgar Ouchama, sent a letter to Yeshua requesting for him to come and heal him (Y:25:4-13). Yeshua denied the request, but promised to send one of his disciples instead (Y:25:14-20).
