Summary: Damascus was the capital city of the Province of Syria, located about 60
miles northeast of the Sea of Galilee. At the time of Yeshua, Damascus was an important
junction of trade routes, and a growing center of Greco-Roman culture.
The re-built city of Khirbet Qumran, inhabited by the Essenes, was often referred
to as Damascus. The ‘Damascus’ referred to by Paul (Saul of Tarsus) in Acts chapter
9 was the Essene community of Khirbet Qumran.Notes/References:
