Dread Lord (Dreadful/Dreaded)

Occurrences:  11

First Reference:  1st Endowment 6:43  (“Most Dreaded Lord” - Enlightenment 10:18)

So reasoned Yaldabaoth within, and going forth he came again unto the Demiurge, and Jehovah-Yahweh spoke, saying: “Where, Dread Lord, would you have us to go? Unto what place shall we go whereby we might establish the whole of your dominion?”

See:  Chief Demiurgos, Demiurge, Jehovah-Yahweh, Yaldabaoth

Summary:
Most often, the title “Dread Lord” (also “Most Dreaded”, “Most Dreadful”) is used to address the Chief Demiurge, Yaldabaoth (E:10:18; 1:8:25-40; 5:10:35). However, there are instances when the title is used in reference to Yaldabaoth’s first emanation, Jehovah-Yahweh (2:1:11, 39, 55; 2:9:21).

Notes/References:

And when he was concluded, [Shaemdiel] spoke boldly unto Yaldabaoth, saying: “Know then Most Dreaded Lord, that I and all my host have come forth to give you service, even as you will.

Enlightenment 10:18

And Lucifer, speaking calmly in the midst of the Demiurge answered, saying: “It is no small thing Dread Lord; for behold, the Gods of Heaven have descended unto the earth, and even now have they taken charge over the children of men.”

1st Endowment 8:25

And finding my feet placed firmly in some darkened world made pale and gray by distant stars, I felt the coming forth of that Dread Lord before whom all religion is made to bow.

2nd Endowment 1:11
